To help you manage costs related to projects linked to your billing profile, you can view the projected total costs for the current month and the next month. You can also set alerts to notify you when monthly cost or traffic thresholds are reached. The Console shows the unit price used to calculate your estimated monthly projected totals. For additional pricing information, refer to the Upsun pricing page.

Prerequisites

View cost and usage estimates

You must be a billing member. See Manage billing members on a billing profile. View summary and detailed cost and usage info on the Cost & usage page of your billing profile.
  1. Complete one of the following steps:
    • From the organization menu (upper left), select an organization and then click Billing.
    • From the user menu (upper right), click Billing or a billing account.
  2. On the billing account page, select a billing profile.
  3. Click Cost & usage.
  4. To view cost projections for individual projects, drill down by organization in the Cost breakdown section.
The Summary and Cost breakdown sections show projected totals based on the actual usage to date and an estimate of the rest of the month using the daily average. To notify billing members before costs exceed your budget, set a billing alert.

View the monthly projected total for all projects

In the Summary section of the Cost & usage page, view the current month’s projected total cost (excluding tax). The projected total combines your actual usage to date with an estimate for the rest of the month, based on your daily average usage. It can’t be 100% accurate, because it’s impossible to know your exact future usage. The projected total is based on:
  • Your organization settings (such as user management settings, number of projects, add-ons, and support SLA)
  • Resource allocation of the projects included in this billing profile
To view the monthly cost breakdown by project, drill down to a project by organization in the Cost breakdown section.

View the monthly projected cost per project

In the Cost breakdown section of the Cost & usage page, view each project’s projected total cost (excluding tax). The current month’s breakdown is calculated from:
  • Resources used so far in the billing cycle
  • Averages of previous resource usage, to estimate the remaining costs for the month
Click Future to view a projection of next month’s costs. Like the current month total, this projection can’t be 100% accurate, because it’s impossible to know your exact future usage. It’s based on the same factors described in View the monthly projected total for all projects. To catch cost increases before they add up, set a billing alert.

Alerts and notifications

Billing event notifications

Upsun sends email notifications about the following events to billing members:
EventDescription
Payment overdueSent when a payment attempt fails and your billing profile enters an overdue state.
Payment disputeSent when a charge on your billing profile is disputed.
Invoice availableSent when a new invoice is generated at the end of the billing period.
Notifications are sent to billing members. To manage who receives these notifications, see Manage billing members on a billing profile.

Set a billing alert

You must be a billing member with Manage billing permission to set a billing alert. See Manage billing members on a billing profile. To help you monitor your costs, determine a billing threshold that, when reached, triggers an email when the charges for all organizations in this billing profile reach the defined threshold for the current month. The alert is based on your actual usage, which Upsun updates daily. Actual usage includes costs for allocated CPU, memory, storage, environments, and users. To set a billing alert:
  1. Complete one of the following steps:
    • From the organization menu (upper left), select an organization and then click Billing.
    • From the user menu (upper right), click Billing or a billing account.
  2. On the billing account page, select a billing profile.
  3. Click Cost & usage.
  4. Click Set alert.
  5. Enter a monthly threshold and click Create alert.
Upsun updates actual usage once daily. If your actual usage across all organizations and projects in the profile crosses the threshold you set, billing members receive one notification per day until you resolve the alert. To edit or delete an alert, click the alert indicator, and adjust the threshold or delete the alert.

Set a traffic alert on a project

You must be a billing member with Manage billing permission to set a traffic alert. See Manage billing members on a billing profile. You can set consumption alerts for your resource usage on a project.
  1. In the Console, navigate to a project: Select an organization from the All projects menu (upper right), then select a project.
  2. In the Traffic this month block on the project landing page, click the Alert icon.
  3. Configure usage thresholds for Origin bandwidth, Origin requests, CDN bandwidth and CDN requests (if applicable).
  4. Save your changes.
When a threshold is reached during the month, billing members receive an email notification. To manage who receives these notifications, see Manage billing members on a billing profile.

About traffic alerts

If the actual usage to date for a project rises above its defined threshold, Upsun sends an email to billing members. Upsun updates traffic and usage data once daily, and sends one alert per day for a maximum of 3 consecutive days after a threshold is crossed, then stops until the threshold resets.
