# Set up Slack

> Connect Slack to your Upsun Dispatch organization and configure Slack notification rules.

Connect a Slack workspace so Upsun Dispatch can send notifications to channels in that workspace for your Upsun Dispatch organization.

The Slack integration settings let you manage the connected Slack workspace, choose channels, and configure notification rules for Upsun Dispatch activity.

## Before you start

You need access to the Upsun Dispatch organization where you want to configure Slack. Use an account that can manage organization integrations.

## Connect Slack

    In the Upsun Dispatch console, open your organization settings, go to integrations, and choose Slack.

    Use the Slack settings page to start authorization. Upsun Dispatch sends you to Slack to approve access for the Slack workspace you want to use for notifications.

    Review the authorization screen in Slack and approve the connection for the intended Slack workspace.

  <Step title="Return to Upsun Dispatch">
    After Slack returns you to Upsun Dispatch, confirm that Slack appears as connected in the Upsun Dispatch organization's integration settings.

## Choose notification channels

After Slack is connected, choose the Slack channels that can receive Upsun Dispatch notifications.

Keep the channel list limited to places where workflow notifications are useful to the people who need to act on them. If a channel is no longer needed, remove it from the Slack notification settings.

## Configure notification rules

Notification rules determine which Upsun Dispatch activity sends messages to Slack and which selected channels receive them.

    Add a rule for the Upsun Dispatch activity you want to send to Slack, then choose the Slack channel that should receive the notification.

    Confirm that each rule points to the intended channel before relying on Slack notifications for workflow updates.

You can return to the Slack integration settings later to update channels, change notification rules, or remove rules that are no longer needed.

## Disconnect Slack

If your organization no longer wants Upsun Dispatch to send Slack notifications, disconnect Slack from the Slack integration settings.

Disconnecting removes the Slack connection from Upsun Dispatch for that organization. Review any remaining notification rules after disconnecting, since they cannot deliver messages without a connected Slack integration.

## Troubleshooting

### Slack does not show as connected

Return to the Slack integration settings and start the connection again. Make sure the authorization finishes in Slack and returns you to Upsun Dispatch.

### Notifications do not reach the expected channel

Confirm that the Slack channel is selected in the Slack notification settings and that a notification rule sends the relevant Upsun Dispatch activity to that channel.

### A channel is no longer needed

Remove the channel from the Slack notification settings, then review any notification rules that used it.
